What is the difference between mechanical water meters and smart water meters?

Dec 19, 2024

Entering the 21st century, China has undergone tremendous changes, and every aspect of life has gradually entered the era of intelligent Internet of Things. Taking the common water meter in daily life as an example, the following will introduce the differences between mechanical water meters and intelligent water meters.

In fact, most parts of China have already replaced mechanical water meters with smart water meters, and through the research and development of new technologies, various smart water meters with different functions have emerged in the market. Many people are not familiar with the difference between these two water meters, which makes them unwilling to replace their previous mechanical water meters with smart ones. Because they believe that the mechanical water meter can work properly, why replace it.

The difference between mechanical water meters and intelligent water meters
Difference 1: Smart water meters have multiple functions such as remote control of water meter switches, remote meter reading, remote recharging, and intelligent display readings. Ordinary mechanical water meters cannot achieve remote control of closing, recharging, reading, and other functions.

Difference 2: Smart water meters can achieve prepayment (such as prepaid card recharge operations), while ordinary water meters must go to the property to read and pay.

Difference 3: Smart water meters only require the meter reader to issue commands, and the data on the water meter will be uploaded to the corresponding database. The meter reader can copy the water meter data. However, mechanical water meters can only read water meters on a household by household basis, which is inefficient and embarrassing for users. You can check the correct usage of the IC card for the remote smart water meter.

As a water meter with numerous users, the working principle of a mechanical water meter is not complicated. It operates continuously by simply impacting the impeller with water flow, hence it is called a mechanical water meter. However, due to insufficient intelligence, mechanical water meters have significant shortcomings in meter reading and billing, and are gradually being replaced by smart water meters.
