What is the difference between intelligent water meters and mechanical water meters?

May 06, 2023

At present, in our daily life, smart water meters have replaced old-fashioned mechanical water meters and become the most commonly used, widely applicable, and widely used water meter in today's society. Especially in high-rise residential buildings, smart water meters are mostly used, and few users use old-fashioned water meters.

Even in areas where old-fashioned water meters are used, they are often built for a relatively long time and the floors are not particularly high. Intelligent water meters are a more advanced and popular type of water meter compared to old-fashioned mechanical water meters, favored by users, consumers, and water supply departments.

As an old-fashioned water meter, mechanical water meters have dominated the water meter market for so many years, but they also have their own advantages. Not only do they have low failure rates and low prices, but they can also perform on-site readings, which is very convenient for previous usage environments.

However, with the development and progress of the times, the drawbacks of this type of water meter have become increasingly apparent. It not only requires manual door-to-door meter reading to obtain the reading of the water meter, but also is very inconvenient to manage. When there are situations such as stealing water or not paying water bills, there is no effective treatment method, which makes people headache.

And smart water meters are different because they come with very advanced technologies, including sensing technology, microelectronics technology, smart IC card technology, etc. This ensures that smart water meters will not have the same drawbacks as mechanical water meters when used.

Not only can water consumption be accurately measured, displayed, and remotely transmitted, but real-time settlement or payment can also be made through smart devices such as mobile phones or computers, making it convenient for users not to mention it. It can also save the trouble of staff visiting to read meters and a series of safety hazards that come with it.

And in the actual use process, mechanical water meters may cause significant wear and tear to themselves due to their limitations in operation, while intelligent water meters do not have such problems, with longer service life and more reassuring.
